Planning and Plumbing a New Bathroom installation

Bathroom refurbishments, if thought about planned and budgeted, can be one of the most rewarding and satisfying Diy projects to undertake and deliver into a home. A tired, damaged or dated bathroom is like an irritating eyesore: it's a question that enduringly stares you in the face and it just gets worse each time you go there.

Upgrading a bathroom suite or detach cloakroom and toilet does not have to cost a fortune, or commit you to unaffordable credit. I can't emphasise enough, when undertaking such a project, keep your investment within budget and don't be tempted by state of the art mod cons on display in bathroom centre showrooms, and builders' or plumbers' merchants' displays.

Plumbing

The more you plan, the less occasion of the project going down the pan!

Systematically write down a list of priority bathroom fittings and replacements, and then undertake your own explore into what is available and where you can source it for the best potential price.

Choosing a New Bathroom Suite

Online explore can source both local builders' merchants and Diy suppliers as well as the nearest plumbers' merchant's depot, or a master provider from supplementary afield.

Pre-set a total budget ceiling to buy and setup your new bathroom suite, and be sure to itemise each item you wish to collect be it a close-coupled toilet and cistern, pedestal and hand basin, bath, shower screen, shower head and riser support, and water and waste piping.

Look online at suppliers' websites and systematically check out their prices and delivery costs, and personel product specifications. Be sure to check product sizes, especially in areas of dinky floor space like a bathroom, cloakroom, or bedroom en-suite. It is no use buying products from separate suppliers if they won't certainly fit in the floor layout you are planning.

Research is the key to retention within budget and not getting tempted or carried away with expensive, state of the art bathroom designs.

Design Styles

With so many modern and classical bathroom designs to choose from, and so many architectural features to reconsider in homes today - it is to keep an open mind and escort as much explore online as you feel is primary to get the best designs and the best value for money offers in the marketplace. Visit show rooms to get an idea of how things might look and paint a optic photograph of the hereafter of your bathroom. Don't get carried away, remember, you'll have dinky room.

There are certainly hundreds of traditional or modern designs to choose from and the decision will be a subjective one as it is your property you are upgrading.

Prioritise Requirements

Is it to be a plastic or steel bath you require? Or maybe a free-standing, Victorian roll-top institute with clawed feet? Are you plainly seeing to replace an old, coloured, plastic bath with a new plain white institute plus taps, washers, waste, and side and end panels? Is your project a major refurbishment job where an old bathroom suite and pipes need to be removed and substituted with a astonishing new classical design?

Do you intend investing in an eco-friendly, modern suite with water flow controls to sell out inordinate consumption? This is something worth inspecting if you are on a water meter or have a large family. These modern flow controls can sell out water consumption by up to 80% foremost to health savings on your utility bills.

Discipline and tight budget controls are key to production the right decisions, as well as taking professional guidance from any trade experts in your local showrooms.

Planning Your New Bathroom

It is extremely wise to draw out a new floor plan and immediately mark out your total floor space, entry door, waste exit point, hand basin, toilet, bidet, bath and shower positions, together with areas of travel for habitancy to get in and out freely.

You also need to reconsider if an extractor fan is necessary. It can be primary if you plan to address the question of condensation, especially in winter. It can be fitted into an face wall or window, or with conduit tunnelling into an attic and across to an face wall.

Electrics

Did you know it is illegal to setup any electric wall sockets or plug socket systems into a bathroom, except a modern shaver socket and cover? Only ceiling light pull cords can be installed within the bathroom. Ceiling light wall switches can be installed face the bathroom entry door on an adjacent wall in the hallway or first floor landing area. All electric fittings must conform with current I. E. E. Wiring regulations and building regulations. If unsure, consult and commission a great electrician to advise you on re-wiring or planning any bathroom wiring requirements. All the time get at least 2 quotations if you intend request an electrician to perfect the rewiring project, or test the existing electricity circuits before planning your extractor fan, or entertainment, lighting and electrical installations.

En-Suite Facilities

Not only might you be inspecting upgrading a bathroom or cloakroom, but you may also be planning to change a small bedroom or box room into a new en-suite factory as the children grow up.

Again, faithful notice about budgets, designs and layout plans - (including drawings with standing areas clearly marked) - are the maxims to achieving success. buy of fixtures and fittings should not be undertaken before all your plans have been meticulously drawn, tested and popular ,favorite by all the family.

Disposing of waste from an en-suite toilet, shower, bath or hand basin to the property's soil stack may not All the time be potential without installing a Macerator pump. Even if your new en-suite facilities are being installed on the opposite side if the house to an existing soil stack, it will be potential to perfect the factory by adding a Macerator pump and 32mm waste exit pipes.

Removal of an Old Bathroom or Cloakroom Fittings

Listing the sequence of events - together with their estimated timings - is a very wise part of your bathroom conversion plans. Getting things done in the right order can make all the difference. Here is an example list to consider:

1. Fit stop cocks to pipes from cold water warehouse tank and hot water cylinder supply.

2. Turn off water supplies. Flush toilet. Turn on all old taps and drain off all water in existing pipes.

3. Take off old bath, toilet, hand basin, pedestal and toilet, together with cistern and waste pipes. Be sure you have assistance, especially if removing a heavy steel bath. Ensure you have the approved tools like wrenches, power drill and driver, hacksaw and pipe cutters.

4. Start by removing the toilet and cistern tank. Disconnect the cistern downpipe to the pan first by unscrewing the nut below the cistern and then unscrewing the connection at the pan end. Take off any wall screws and disconnect the cistern. Then Take off the pan floor screws and lift the pan from its flooring position.

5. When removing the pan, be faithful not to damage its soil pipe. Cover the soil pipe exit with a cloth to preclude any debris from getting into the soil pipe.

6. Check for any damage or repairs needed in the floor boards or wall plaster after removing the cistern and toilet.

7. Continue by removing the pedestal and hand basin, by disconnecting taps and unscrewing all wall brackets to lift the basin and pedestal. Again check for any subsequent repairs to the wall or floor.

8. Take off Bath: Take out any side or end panels. Disconnect hot and cold taps using a wrench. Disconnect waste pipe and water furnish pipes. Lift bath with help from an assistant. Manipulate bath out of the bathroom and Take off from the building. Check for any damage to existing walls, plaster or floor boards.

9. Now plan the positioning of new water furnish pipes and any waste pipes' exit routes to the soil stack.

10. Take off any remaining old fixtures and fittings like towel rails, toilet roll holders, bathroom cabinets, mirrors etc. Fix any screw holes in the walls using the approved plaster filler.

11. Have any old electric wiring or ceiling lights tested and take guidance on their replacement, using a great electrician.

Trade Tip: Do not Take off any old fittings before you have purchased all the new exchange bathroom fittings and double check they are the accurate size; come perfect with all taps, washers, screws, waste pipes and supports; are neither chipped, cracked or damaged in any way whatsoever; and you have a reliable assistant to help with any lifting and discharge of old fittings, and the factory of your new bathroom suite.

Note: discharge of lead pipes can earn you a few quid at the local scrap yard, and advertising old bathroom suites on a local Recycle/Green website can find a grateful new owner rather than dumping your old fittings into a local Council landfill tip.

Installing New Bathroom Fittings

Read all the manufacturers' fitting instructions carefully, first and don't start any new installations before you have checked through each component box, and double-checked that all the fittings and screws/piping pieces are included.

Toilet:

1. Connect the extra plastic and rubber pan connector to the exit soil pipe, having first removed the soil pipe's temporary debris rag cover.

2. Then screw the pan into your bathroom floor using the manufacturer's screws supplied, together with their plastic head covers. Ensure it is positioned at the accurate level using a spirit level.

3. Position the close-coupled cistern tank above and Connect the water supply, plus water furnish to the pan and the overflow pipe to its exit pipe.

Always fit an isolating valve to the new water furnish pipes for simplifying any maintenance in future.

Bath and Hand Basin

1. All the time check all components are perfect in both product packages, together with waste outlet pipes. Supervene the manufacturer's fitting instructions to the letter.

2. Fit washers, taps, overflows and waste pipes first, before installing the bath and wash basin and pedestal in position.

3. Water supplies to the hand basin are from 15mm copper pipes and 22mm copper pipes for the bath.

4. Waste water from the hand basin will run away into its soil pipe through whether a U-trap or bottle trap below the basin and it's new, 32mm plastic pipework.

5. Waste water from the bath will run into its soil pipe through new, 40mm push-fit, plastic piping.

6. Use the bath's two steel floor supports and adjustable feet below its institute to create the water outflow along a suitable downfall by applying a spirit level. Don't guess this primary water downfall.

7. Fitting new servicing stop valves in the water furnish pipes is a frugal move while these upgrade installations.

8. Fit both the new bath side and end panel as per the manufacturer's instructions using the screws provided.

Tiling and ornamental Finishes

Always be sure you are using waterproof wall tile adhesive and grouting when tiling nearby hand basins, baths, shower enclosures and wet rooms. Use professional plastic spacers when mounting each wall tile. Supervene manufacturers' fixing and grouting instructions to the letter and you will then accomplish a professional finish.

Do not affix wall tiles to a new bathroom floor. Ceramic or cork floor tiles, or a vinyl floor face can be fitted to accomplish an entertaining halt to your bathroom every person will admire.

Wall and floor tiles today come in a multitude of designs and face finishes from slate, to porcelain or a high glaze finish, and in plain or patterned colour ways. Again, classical or modern designs are available to complement your new bathroom suite or cloakroom.

Be sure to spend in a tile cutter to fit all the tiles in any tight spaces, or nearby a bath or hand basin, or door frame.

Sealants

Before the new bathroom factory can be classed as waterproof and complete, you must seal any gaps between the bath and basin, and any adjacent wall tiles. Flexible, waterproof silicon sealants are primary to preclude any water dripping and damaging the grouting and plasterwork below your new bathroom or cloakroom walls and floors.

Furniture and Fittings

Embellishing your entertaining new bathroom or shower room with furniture, mirrors or accessories will give it that ultimate finish, and furnish warehouse for people's personal effects like towelling, shampoos, shower gels, hair sprays, deodorants and shaver systems. In addition, it's those dinky extras like toilet roll holders, glass shelving and artefacts that make it a statement worth delivering.

Trade Tip: If using a power drill to make a screw hole into a glazed wall tile, place a criss-cross strip of masking tape onto the tile first and then mark the exact drill spot. Switch the drill to a slower speed and apply moderate pressure when starting to drill into the surface. This will preclude a sudden slip and damage to your tile surface. Withdraw the drill and growth the speed to accomplish the closed depth required.

Affix all bathroom furniture and fittings only with the manufacturers' screws and wall plugs provided.

Congratulations - you now have a gorgeous new bathroom every person in the household is proud to use.

Pass Plumbing Test

The International Plumbing License test is hard to gain a pass from. In order to win an authorized plumbing license, everybody must pass a government authorized plumbing test. Without a allowable plumbing guide, this test proves to be an obstacle for many good plumber apprentices and school studying plumbers. But there are sources which provide straightforward solutions to this situation.

As far as the International Plumbing License test is concerned, the book you get is a tome. Have you tried reading straight through the International Plumbing Code and International Gas Code? There are few books I've read that are more dense. Am I thick? Or is it that the guide is at fault and is beyond doubt production it more difficult to pass my plumbing test?

Plumbing

Those are the things I used to ask myself. I also wondered, 'Perhaps I'm just getting very frustrated with waffle I know I need to understand, or possibly there beyond doubt is some conjecture for this plumbing test that does make sense. Whatever the case, comprehension the rules and regulations can not be avoided.' I'm now aware that in the Usa an midpoint plumber earns 1.2 times that of the pay-packet of an midpoint attorney. (Figures: 2008).

In Europe, the midpoint plumber's pipe reaches 1.9 times longer than an accountant's. That's right. But when I first started plumbing, I had no idea about how much I would enjoy it or just how much I would earn from it.

So how did I pass my plumbing license test? I looked straight through the International Plumbing and Gas Codes. I knew I was a great practical plumber, but I just couldn't cope with the codes. I was about half way there, but I needed a good guide to construe what the plumbers' bible was saying.

So I got a guide.

Any good plumbers' test guide should include: guides and definitions which comprise illustrations, figuring and calculating fixtures required, water distribution throughout the project, together with sizing, plans and design, germ-free drain sizes and planning, storm drainage sizing, septic tank and drain field sizing with local planning, gas pipe sizes and distribution, gas appliance venting, accounting and returns (if you're planning on going it alone), and plumbing symbols and isometrics.

Try your current knowledge now:

A three-compartment sink is an example of a what fixture?

The gross area of an exhibition premise is 10,000 quadrilateral feet. What amount of individual citizen is used to conjecture facilities?

The length from a meter to a natural gas water heater (40,000 btuh) is 30 feet, 20 feet additional down the line is a furnace (120,000btuh). What is the minimum gas pipe size that must be used in the middle of the water heater and furnace? (pressure drop =.05) a. 3/8" b. ½" c. ¾" d.1".

A fixture with a continuous flow of 4 gpm is equal to how many fixture units?

A wet vent serving 5 dfu must be at least how many inches in diameter?

Two simply ventilating appliances with a combined capacity of 128,000 btuh are linked to a common B-vent 18' high with two 90 degree elbows. What size common vent should be used? A. 4", B. 5", C. 6", D. 7".

A stack vent with a total advanced length of 40 feet is linked to a 3" waste stack serving 25 dfu. The minimum diameter of the stack vent should be how many inches?

A gray water reservoir, predicted to receive 50 gallons per day shall have a minimum size of what if the retention time is 2 days?

You buy a water heater (water heater) for 5 and add 7% sales tax. Your labor is 5. What is the selling price if your overhead is 15% and you wish to make a 25% gross profit?

How did you get on? Just make sure you find good guides to helping you pass your plumbing test. Once you have an International Plumbing License in your hand, the world is your oyster.

Plumbing Cleaning Prior To icy Temperatures

Plumbing professionals are always ready to help you with the process of maintaining your sewer lines and drains. Though many population do not tend to think of these needs until there is a blockage, it is a good idea to have these lines cleared out at least one time per year. It may be ideal to do this prior to the weather turning and the outdoors getting older. Though it is rare for pipes to freeze, it is inherent for this to happen especially if the lines are not used as readily as they used to be. Cleaning them now reduces the risk of problems down the road.

Why Do It?

Plumbing

Countless problems can develop in these lines. The most coarse plumbing problems connected to the drains is a clog due to the substances that pass straight through the sinks into the drains. For example, if food particles and grease continuously are put down the drain, this can build up over time. When that happens, it reduces the amount of space that fluid has to move straight through to get to the main drains. This can lead to a needful problem over time.

However, it is not always the homeowner's fault these types of problems occur. For example, a tree's roots can extend into the pipe. It can break into the line for your main drain, too. If this happens, it can lead to a leak that is significant. By cleaning out the system, you can sacrifice the risk that you will have a bigger problem down the road.

Why Winter Matters

Before the freezing happens, get this type of problem treated. Imagine a pipe that has a mass of almost solid material lining the interior edges of the pipes. As the temperatures in the area drop, that material becomes frozen. This can lead to complications including the pipe bursting as a result.

When you turn to a professional to clean these lines on the other hand, they can flush out all of this material and get rid of it for good. That way, the water flows freely straight through it and nothing is at risk of bursting. It is a good idea for you to reconsider the long-term needs of your home. If you do not have this type of cleaning, you could have a burst main line. That is an costly fix especially if it happens in the middle of the winter.

As you take into consideration the assorted types of problems that can occur with your plumbing if you do not verbalize it, it is clear to see that you need this type of care. The good news is that it does not have to be costly and it can be done fairly quickly, too.

Owner built log cabin II

Owner built log cabin II Video Clips. Duration : 3.05 Mins.

This is one of the few spots that I can build a log cabin on the upper section of this land so it seems like a challenge to me. As you may have noticed from the video, this is a one man construction project, hence the size of the log cabin but it's nice that I get to make all of the creative decisions on the cabin design;) Though, the downfall of that being that I can really only move upto a certain sized log by myself, and if anything is to be carried up to the cabin (it's quite a hike up the mountainside) It's on my back. So far I've put about 13 weekends into this cabin as well as 0 in spikes, rebar, nails, morter and plumbing parts as well as 9 trees and about 17 sapplings and a burned out old cedar stump (used for the shake roof). What's interesting is that it's actually quite therapeutic for me to just be out in the forest working on this log cabin project. I tend to find myself feeling very refreshed after a weekend of doing this sort of thing, I think maybe that I like the creative outlet that this project provides to me, dunno for sure. Though I have to admit that there are times when I really think that building a log cabin is a challenge to anyones limits of perserverance. So since it's snowing now at this elevation and it's really hard to work with frozen logs and cold fingers, I've decided to stop working untill things warm up a bit. I guess I'll just go back to my regular therapist until then.

How To Use Plumbing Tapes And Sealants To Seal Hoses And Pipes

When embarking on a plumbing project, be sure that you seal the pipes and hoses well. It might be harder than you think. Do read up on how it can be done. However, it is also very prominent to make sure you have the acceptable tools.

Never use a sealant that is not designed for what you are doing. Use plumber's putty to seal the sink flanges of a garbage disposal unit. There are types of special wax or grease sealants that are favorable to be used on the base of the toilet. Shower pipes and spouts should be sealed with caulking, and the list goes on from there.

Plumbing

Most will learn from their mistake of utilizing the wrong sealant for safe bet jobs. Do not substitute Pvc Pipe glue when instructions ask for plumber's putty. If you use these things rather than Teflon plumber's tape on hoses, you will never be able to take off it should you ever determine to replace the hoses.

Be sparing but not stingy. It's also prominent to use the right amounts. For example, a ¼ inch bead of plumber's putty is enough to seal colse to a sink. Too much of it will beyond doubt mean that more cleaning up is needed. If insufficient amounts are used, water will leak under the sink.

Remove the excess but make sure not too much is removed. Too much sealant will tend to crack and tear after it hardens. Using your finger or a damp sponge, lightly wipe away any extra and you should be fine. In addition, ascertain that all smears are removed before they are dry.

Do not stingy about the use of Teflon plumber's tape. It is uncommon to use too much, but in some cases, it can generate gaps for water to seep through. Because it is relatively malleable it can be difficult even if you want to overdo it. You want to ensure that not too much is being used as it can make it near to impossible to fit the new pipes or hose back on.

Wind it in the proper direction. If you are handling hoses, the direction is not a problem, however if you are threading pipes, direction will matter. If it's not done correctly, the tape will twist off. The tail of the tape should be facing the direction you will be threading onto it. It will generate a seal that us tight as the tape will extend in the similar direction as the pipe while the pipe is being threaded. If the tape is facing the opposite direction, the seal will not be tight.

Avoid torn ends. Do not tear or bite the tape off using your teeth. It can seem like a good idea if you are working in a cramped space that is hard for you to move around. This can lead to stretching and tearing of the ends. If the tape is stretched too much before it is threaded on the pipe, it will not seal correctly.

If the tape is cut cleanly, it will set in the threads great and not leave any ridges that could cause leaks. This should be done on the front and back of the tape. If you have ridges, you will generate small openings for water to escape from.

If you apply the acceptable sealant for the job and ensue instructions faithfully, your scheme should be free from leaks.

Plumbing - How French Drains Work

French drains which, despite their name, originated in the United States, essentially work by providing invasive groundwater with a path of least resistance by means of which it can be redirected away from a structure or low-lying section of lawn. They are named for a new Hampshire man, Henry Flagg French, who, in 1860, published a book with the engaging title: Farm Drainage - The Principles, Processes, and Effects of Draining Land with Stones, Wood, Plows, and Open Ditches, and Especially with Tiles.

Nowadays, French drains are commonly used to combat flooding problems caused by face and/or groundwater that a home owner may be having, especially affecting their lawn, foundation or basement. They are also sometimes used to drain off liquid effluent from septic tanks.

Plumbing

The basic design, a gravel-filled trench, is uncomplicated but for it to continue working over the long haul, it's important that it be well executed.

Flooding problems are usually linked with sloping ground, non-porous clayey soil, or a blend of the two. For example, if your asset is built on a slope with your neighbors' house occupying a lot higher up the slope, heavy rainfall can precipitate an accumulation of groundwater rushing down from their asset and onto your own. If your soil is not able to suck up all that water, you could very well touch damage to your house's foundation, or leakage into a crawlspace or basement below the ground floor of the house.

A linear French drain is a simple, cost-effective solution to such a problem. In this scenario, it acts as a moat that protects your house by intercepting the groundwater rushing down the slope and directing it colse to and away from your house's foundation.

A linear French drain is a doable D.I.Y. Project, if you don't mind doing some backbreaking work (this does involve digging a trench, which after all is a thing intimately akin to a ditch) and you have the proper tools and materials (1" round washed gravel, 4" Pvc pipe with drainage holes, a trenching spade or power trencher and a builder's level)

So, let's get down to the nitty-gritty both of how to build a French drain, and how it works. First of all, you'll need to dig an L-shaped or U-shaped trench system, 6" wide and 24" deep, four to six feet from the house. It's important not to build the drain too near the house because, if you do, you'll be bringing water up against the foundation, which is exactly what you don't want.

The main leg of the trench theory should be dug up the slope from the house. For a U-shaped French drain, it should be level and linked to two pipes on whether side of the house with 90 degree Pvc elbow joints. For an L-shaped drain, the main leg should slope down, at a pitch of at least 1/8 inch per foot of fall, to the second leg which will run alongside the house, also linked by means of a 90 degree Pvc elbow joint.

When you are designing your drain system, you want to make gravity work for you. Just like a river, groundwater flows downhill, so you'll have to work with the natural slope of your asset and, if possible, have the exit pipe come out above ground to give the groundwater an easy exit point.

Once you've decided on the layout of the theory and done the heavy work of digging the trenches, it's time to install the working parts of the drainage system: the gravel and pipes. First of all, tamp down any loose soil in the lowest of the trench and line it with 1 to 2 inches of gravel, lay the Pvc pipes on top of this first layer of gravel, with the holes pointing down, and then fill in the trench with more gravel, to one inch below ground level. Then all you have to do is cover the trench with sod or an additional one decorative touch of your own choosing. And you're done. The next time there's a heavy rain, excess ground water will enter your newly installed French drain and be diverted colse to your house and discharged at the end of the exit pipe or pipes.

It's commonly advise that a French drain be lined with geotech fabric and the piping be wrapped in a geotech sock to prevent it from becoming clogged with silt. I don't advise doing either. If you were going to use geotech fabric anywhere, the place to put it would be on top of the trench to prevent silt and sediment from filtering down from above and filling in the air spaces in the middle of the gravel. Most of the water that enters a French drain is groundwater flowing sideways underground, not downwards from the surface. Groundwater is not silty, it has already had the silt and sediment filtered out of it as it trickled down through the topsoil. If you doubt this, just ask yourself whether private spring water and well water are clear or muddy. Both of them are of course usually crystal clear because soil is a natural water purifier.

You must also clean all items and surfaces that were touched by the sewage, along with children's toys, by using use one cup of unscented household bleach to every five gallons of water. Throw away items that cannot be washed and cleaned (such as mattresses, stuffed animals, baby toys, and wood cutting boards) and food that may have come in feel with sewage water.

If the sewage backup is in the shower area, try using a snake. A one quarter inch snake that is 25 feet is you best bet. It will move more verily through the line. You may find that the shower trap gets backed up, while the toilet in the same bathroom does not. This is due to the fact that the toilet trap is typically about six inches above the floor level, whereas the typical shower drain is installed level with the floor.

If you are unable to clear this backup yourself, you must call in professional plumbers. They will be able to clean up the leaked sewage thoroughly, as well as find out exactly where the clog is located. Unless you know what you are doing when you try to do your own plumbing repairs, it is commonly wise to let the professionals cope it to begin with.

Plumbing Science For Non-Plumbers

Water all the time seeks its own level. That is the corporal law in which plumbing is based. If you are a homeowner with zero plumbing awareness, this is one fact that, at the very least, you should be aware of. Take this to heart, because this water principle, coupled with the natural law of gravity and pressure, will make or break your home, bank account, and state of mind, depending on your actions or lack of it.

Plumbing systems work in two ways; one is to take water in, and the other is to take water out. More succinctly, clean water in, dirty or waste water out. If that straightforward order or sequence gets mixed up, it's time to call a plumber to fix a monumental plumbing disaster.

Plumbing

How does clean water come into your home? That is explained by the natural law of pressure. Pressure allows clean water to pass straight through pipes, travel upwards to one or any floors, move left or right into this room or that, wherever it's needed. Those ubiquitous water valves control the way these pressurized water move in and nearby your home. Cold water is indubitably obtained from your main water provide straight through the process above. But if you need hot water, the cold water is first redirected to an installed water heater in your home that warms it up. The heated water then travels along the hot water line that again brings the water to all outlets in the home that requires hot water, like the dishwater, the bath tub or the shower.

If water intake is a straightforward science, so is water and waste outtake. But often, plumbing problems caused by waste outtake consequent to more precious repairs than the intake. There is a need for the skilled expertise of certified plumbers, or if you plan to mend it yourself, the right "non-leery" attitude, for clear reasons.

Dirty waste water, after all, leaves your house following the law of gravity. Waste water goes downward to the sewer or septic tank, nice and easy. Behind this straightforward rule is the multitude of vents and traps to keep the process of waste discharge possible. Vents allow air to fill drainpipes, precious air that allow waste water outflow. Traps are those curved S-shaped sections of the pipes under the sink drain. Traps perform a crucial role in forcing most of the water straight through the drainpipe, but leaving some to seal the area and forestall sewer gas from backing up.

Plumbing, as you see, is a science. Ignore the science behind it and your home will either be flooded, or you will encounter water damage of varied proportions. Undertaking any plumbing repair, particularly major damages, is best left to the capable hands of plumbers. Some areas have single local plumbing codes that need to be checked on either or not a homeowner is allowed to self-repair plumbing problems.

In the long run, knowing the science of plumbing can save a lot of money on your behalf and good safety for your home.

Why Should You choose a relax Height Toilet?

Have you ever wondered what is meant by the term relieve height toilet? (I know, weird subject). When I worked at Home Depot as a Kitchen/Bath Designer I often helped customers in the plumbing aisles. One thing that I would always recommend when a buyer was finding at buying a new toilet, or water closet as it is called in the Architectural Industry, was to look at buying a relieve height toilet.

A relieve height toilet is one that is just a little bit higher than a regular toilet. (An midpoint residential toilet is in the middle of 14" and 16" tall). The height of a relieve height seat can be found anywhere in the middle of 17" and 19" high. The best seat height is right at 18" but if you found a toilet that you precisely liked its features such as it will never clog or it is a low flow toilet then I would go with a height as close to the 18" as possible.

Plumbing

So, why make the relieve choice? Because it is much easier getting on and off You do not have to have little mobility either to appreciate the higher seat. It is easier on the legs while sitting if the seat is in the higher range. Of course, the size of the someone using the bathroom should be thought about if possible: if Aunt Mable is 4'-10", the relieve Height would probably not contribute comfort. Accessible limitations should be thought about too.

Another good selection when selecting a new toilet is to choose the elongated bowl because it fits the shape of the human body more naturally than the round seat. The round bowl is reminiscent of out-houses. So, with those thoughts in mind, if you are remodeling your bathroom, reconsider your vast selection of toilet choices and reconsider those that are or will be using the toilet. It is easier to plan for the future and make some relieve choices now rather than having to do it later. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Take care.

Why Should You choose a relax Height Toilet?

How Do You setup Your Own Plumbing And Drainage System?

The first thing that you will need to consider when undertaking any Diy plumbing and drainage are the regulations issued by your Local Authority or State division covering these.

If you are altering your existing drainage, or installing a new drainage theory you must all the time acquaint the local construction control division at your local council offices. You will almost genuinely need to gift detailed plans of the work that you intend to undertake and it will need to be inspected as the work progresses manufacture sure that it complies with local construction regulations. If you are plainly replacing damaged sections, in most circumstances they do not need to be informed. However, if in any doubt - check it out. A plainly phone call should suffice.

Plumbing

To begin with we will take a look at drainage systems.

These can be described as Foul Water systems and covering Water systems. Foul water is anything that comes from bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms, car washing areas etc. Waste from these sources must all the time go to your foul water drain system.

Surface water is basically rainwater. This can discharged into a soakaway, watercourse, covering water sewer or, particularly in older properties, into the foul water drainage system. In a combined system, the rainwater pipes are discharged into the foul water drains via gully traps which stop foul air escaping from the drains. However, contemporary systems are designed to keep the foul water and the covering water apart. It is extremely foremost to ensure that you do not associate foul water to a covering water drainage system. If you are unsure about the drainage theory around your house get advice from the construction control division before you start any work.

Remember - If in doubt - check it out!

Planning

Before you begin, you will need to plan the route of the waste pipes. The main things to consider when planning the route of a waste or soil pipe are to keep the route as level and short as you can. You must avoid manufacture your pipe runs too steep. A soil pipe is normally laid to a fall of 1:40. This won't seem very much but it is plenty. The rule of thumb for pipe laying is 'a touch on the bubble'. This means that the bubble on the spirit level has moved to the higher end, but part of the bubble is still contained between the level lines on the spirit level. Remember - this is only a 'rule of thumb guide. You can reason the fall of a drain over a distance using a surveyor's site level. If you do not have one of these available, found a datum point and use a hosepipe filled with water to found levels and reason the fall from the datum this way. (If a hosepipe is filled with water, the level of the water will equal out at each end, measure to the trench floor from the end away from the datum to enable your calculations.)

Your local authority will be able to give you the recommended falls for pipework.
Putting in drainage:

Preparing the trench:

When installing your drain trench, you will need to make sure that you do not impair the stability of the building. If you are laying a drain run parallel to the building, you must ensure that any foundations are not undermined.

Do not dig the trench too long before laying the pipe when installing a new drainage system. Make sure that you get the pipes laid as quickly as inherent and then backfill the trench as soon as the theory has been inspected and tested.
The trench may need to be supported depending on the depth and soil conditions. Do not take any risks. If in doubt - add reserve to the trench to forestall it from collapsing. Keep the trench as narrow as possible, but allow room to work in the trench - say the width of the pipe plus 150mm (6") on each side. The base of the trench should be clean and even and free from protruding stones or bricks etc. You may need to import a favorable material for the base of the trench if the existing material is unsuitable. Your local inspector will propose you.

Never use bricks and/or other hard materials to reserve the pipe in the trench. This will damage the pipe and must never be used as temporary or permanent support. The bedding should be properly compacted with hollows made to accommodate the joints in the pipes. You will need to supply a continuous and uniform reserve for the complete distance of the pipe. Once the laid pipes have been inspected, granular material should be evenly backfilled and compacted to a depth of at least 100mm above the pipe. 10 mm shingle has often been used as a backfill material as, not only is it a uniform medium but is also a optic warning to anything excavating in the area of the drains that there are drainage pipes immediately below. Above the granular backfill material, the customary dug material can be used to completely backfill the trench. This should be compacted in 300mm layers. Be sure not use heavy compactors until there is at least 300mm of cover. Light vibratory tampers could be used sensibly to help with the compaction.

You will need to safe any part of the drain theory that is less than 600mm below a garden. This is because of inherent damage from orchad activities and gardening tools. A 50mm layer of lean concrete laid 100mm above the pipe will be adequate to do this. Any way you could use preformed concrete slabs as an alternative.

It is foremost that all parts of your drainage theory are designed so that all parts of the pipework are accessible to a set of drain rods. Therefore, a run of drains should be as level as inherent between two points. As a normal rule, any turn in direction of the pipework should be in case, granted with an inspection accommodation to allow rodding access. This will also apply to changes in gradient, all drain junctions that are inaccessible to a set of drain rods, changes in pipe diameter and at the head of each run of drain. Where a junction between two drains does not have a manhole, way should be sited on the field drain within 12 metres of the junction.

Diy plumbing and drainage is genuinely within the bounds of most Diy enthusiasts. However, you must remember that it is foremost to consequent local construction control regulations and, as always, it is 'hard graft'!

Remember if in doubt - check it out!

Whilst the author endeavors to ensure the accuracy of the facts contained within this article, you are reminded that this is only a guide and you should all the time check with local expert before undertaking any work based herein.

Roman Plumbing - Why the Roman Plumbing system Was So developed

You always hear plumbers talking about how good their plumbing expertise is, especially after they have fixed a major question in your kitchen or in your bathroom area but I think historically there have been many civilizations that have both stated plumbing that even rivals the systems that we use today. The Romans had one of the most prosperous empires in the history of human civilization and they were known for conquering most of the known world back then. They were not only expert warriors and architects but the city of Rome had one of the best plumbing systems ever built. For them to have large and small aqueduct systems, lead pipes that we use even today, floors that were heated according to their liking and drainage systems and dams that are even study by plumbers today.

Each individual home in the city of Rome had water holder flow continuously into it straight through a specialized nozzle that was built by their expert plumbers. Each house owner had a distinct rate to pay for their water furnish according to the size of the nozzle that was built specifically for the. For instance, a home that had a larger nozzle would pay a limited more than person with a smaller nozzle because of the fact that more water could flow into their home at a faster rate. It's thinkable, to see this technology in activity as it was plumbing that was way beyond its time.

Plumbing

Even social baths in Rome were fitted with the latest plumbing technology as they featured faucets that were made of silver. For the rich and celebrated Romans they often had luxury plumbing that had very developed four-branch fittings, stop cocks that were made of brass and very elegant bathtubs that were made of bronze. As the Roman Empire declined not only did their power fade but also their care for their plumbing law and as this happened the Standish of the smell from the lack of plumbing contributed later to many diseases that the Roman citizen picked up. We often neglect to understand how important good plumbing is to not only a home but to a city as a whole until a major crisis happens, so next time you see your beloved neighborhood plumber be sure to shake his hand and thank him for the good job he has always done on your plumbing problems.

MEET AL the PLUMBER - HE'S AN OBAMA SUPPORTER

MEET AL the PLUMBER - HE'S AN OBAMA SUPPORTER Video Clips. Duration : 1.97 Mins.

Plumbing must be the most popular profession in the United States today after no less than two dozen references last night to John McCain's new BFF, "Joe the Plumber." NBC's Milwaukee affiliate, TMJ4, caught up with another plumber who has what I believe a more realistic view on the election. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average income for a plumber is around 000. There's no question that any plumber making that much money (or 5x that amount) is better off under Barack Obama's tax plan. Furthermore, middle class folks are more likely to add that extra bathroom or redo their kitchen when they finally get some relief. In the case of "Joe the Plumber", as the Senator articulated last night, he will get tax credits for the new jobs he creates. Also, and this is something I fault Obama for failing to mention, his health care plan will help to dramatically reduce costs for employers whereas McCain's "plan" will levy an additional tax. In other words, taxes can't simply be viewed through the prism of income taxes. There are other areas where Barack will cut taxes that will, in the end, be a net gain for someone in "Joe's" position.

Kitchen Sink Basket strainer install. Tube. Duration : 5.37 Mins.

www.plumberx.comHello this is PlumberX. People always ask me what gave you the idea and what made you create these how to plumbing videos? Coming up with the idea was easy. After many years as a plumber and servicing customers at there home I've seen a lot of people in tuff situations, people that could not afford a plumber, people that didn't have time to wait for a plumber to come to there home and make repairs, hearing horror stories of Plumbers that have rip off costumers and gave bad service, to me this was a loud cry for help. One story come to mind; A friend of mine calls me and ask, PlumberX could you do me a favor and help this older lady that I know, and go by and look at her Plumbing, she needs plumbing work really bad but she's to scared to call a plumber because of the cost, and she know that if I send you over there to check out the plumbing she can trust me as a friend recommending you, sure I said I could do that. The next day came and I went to the older lady's home she came to the door with a pleasant smile very humble. I could see it in her eye's she didn't have to say a word ( What is this going to cost ) she was very polite and courteous. Sir would you like some thing to drink and I do appreciate you coming to check out my plumbing on such short notice. No problem mam, lets see what's going on here with your plumbing. This way Sir in the kitchen. As I walk through the home I saw in the corner of my eye younger children around 3, 5 and 6 years of age ...

Buildipedia DIY - How to Install a Toilet Tube. Duration : 5.00 Mins.

Read the full How-To: buildipedia.com The importance of a toilet is to help maintain a sanitary environment in the home -- every home needs one in good working order. While there are many puns for the type of job that is replacing or installing a toilet, in reality it is a pretty simple home improvement project for a do-it-yourselfer. The workings of a toilet are contained within the fixture itself, so the installation comes down to making a couple of plumbing connections, one for the water supply, and one for the waste drain. Join the At Home channel's host, Jeff Wilson, for a video guide through the process of installing a toilet.

March High Temperature Pump for Brewing Home Brew Overview

This is the ideal brewing pump built by March Manufacturing. This pump is constructed of food-grade material, handles wort at boiling temperature, and takes back pressure (flow restriction). The pump housing is made from polysulfone because it is a tough, food-grade plastic rated to temperatures as hot as 250F, well above boiling wort temperatures. It offers many of the benefits of the ideal material, stainless steel, without the prohibitive cost.

The magnetic drive acts as a clutch allowing the user to put back pressure on the pump to slow down flow. Since it is magnetic drive, it is not self-priming, you must put the pump under the level of the liquid source.

The pump is brewer friendly and includes a bracket so that it can be mounted and a 6' power cord with plug wired in for easy use. This is a tough little pump with a 1/25 hp, continuous-duty 1.4 Amp motor which can be run non-stop for extended periods. This pump has a maximum flow of 7.2 gpm with a maximum head of 12 feet. For an example of typical usage: with a head of 6' it will pump 3.25 gpm and with an 8' head it will pump 2.5 gpm. 1/2" mpt fittings on the outlet and 3/4" mpt inlet. Materials in contact with solution are Polysulfone, 316 stainless steel, silicon rubber, Raton and Teflon. Shaded pole, thermal overload protected, single phase motor is fan cooled. Will handle internal pressures to 150 psi. Max pressure the pump can produce in a closed system is a little over 5 psi. Face unscrews and rotates at 90 degree intervals to adjust to your application. To restrict flow place a ball valve on the out flow of this pump. The center inlet port allows for easy draining and cleaning of the pump. Side inlets cost slightly less, but will allow wort and water to sit in the bottom of the pump and mold overtime. The center inlet makes it easy to clean and use. This is why you see the center inlet port pumps in use at all professional breweries.
